All freshman and transfer students planning to major in Engineering, Computer Science, or Construction Management are placed in a pre-engineering program corresponding to their choice of major. The Pre-Major program is detailed in the current UNLV Undergraduate Catalog and the College of Engineering website.
Students with Pre-major standing are expected to study English, Mathematics, Science, Engineering Science, Computer Science, and Social Science to demonstrate their readiness and qualifications for pursuing a major program of study. When students have completed approximately 45-50 credits of prescribed freshman/sophomore course work in their program, they can then apply at the Engineering Advising Center for Advanced Standing in their major. Advanced Standing status allows students to take upper division course work in their major.
Pre-major courses are indicated on degree checklists with an *. When students are about to complete all of their Pre-Major courses, they should inform your Academic Advisor. The Advisor will then file a form and complete a Change of Major/Standing Form once the necessary courses are completed.
