New Student Academic Advising

All undergraduate College of Engineering students are required to meet with an Advisor every semester prior to registering. New students are urged to contact the Engineering Advising Center soon after they receive notice of admission to arrange a meeting with an Academic Advisor. Below is a list of advising options available to new students in the College of Engineering. Upon completion of any one of these advising sessions, your registration hold will be removed and you will be able to use the On-Line Registration System to register for classes.

Please select one of the following advising methods:

Attend a Group Advising Session

If you are an incoming freshman or transfer student, and you live locally, you should attend a Group Advising Session. Please call the Engineering Advising Center right away to reserve a space in one of the sessions. During this session you will attend a presentation, be given a copy of your degree worksheet, have graduation requirements explained, and be advised on selecting classes for your first semester at UNLV. Instructions on using the UNLV On-Line Registration System will also be provided. There will be ample opportunity to ask questions. Group Advising sessions meet in the Thomas Beam Engineering Complex (TBE) in the A-Building, Room A207.

Attend an Individual Advising Session

If you are a transfer student from an institution outside of Nevada and have completed more than 50 credits, you may want to meet individually with Jeanette Sorensen, Director of Advising (in person, or over the phone if you currently live out-of-state). Ms. Sorensen will review transferable coursework, explain important policies, and outline remaining degree requirements. You will be given a copy of your degree worksheet, your graduation requirements will be explained, and you will also be advised on selecting classes for your first semester at UNLV. Advising appointment sessions will be held in the Thomas Beam Engineering Complex (TBE) in the A-Building, Room A207.

Make an appointment for a Phone Advising Session

If you currently reside outside of Southern Nevada, or are unable to come to the UNLV campus, academic advisors are available to work with you by phone or email. Please state during your initial call if you are transferring any courses from another institution--this will alert an advisor to evaluate your transcripts prior to the telephone advising session. You will need to have the following materials handy during your telephone advising session: your SAT/ACT scores (or a copy of your evaluated transfer coursework from the UNLV Registrars Office), a copy of your degree checklist (available on the website) and any questions you many have for the advisor.
